Here are some of my favorite products. They’re natural. Not only do they work for me, but they also limit my exposure to toxins and at the same time reduce harm to the environment—benefiting the nature within and the nature around (what this site is about).
I‘ve shared these for general knowledge purposes rather than for health advice (my disclaimer).
Fresh lemon balm
I grow lemon balm so I can have the convenience of using it fresh. You can use it as a culinary herb—it has a citrusy flavor—but I find lemon balm is good for calming anxiety and an irritable tummy. There is a bunch of research supporting this—See my write-up on the herb, lemon balm.
Deodorant without the nasties
These are great and I’m looking to make my own natural deodorant paste in the future.
But, for now, I buy No Pong or the Black Chicken brands. Axilla paste by Black Chicken and the No Pong products claim to have no nasties. These are sold in Australia.
They work to neutralize odor and minimize wetness without the use of aluminum, alcohol, or harmful chemicals. And, after you apply, there is no invisible residue. The paste comes in a tin, which means you’re supporting a plastic-free initiative.
In Australia?
- Get Black Chicken at Biome! Try it out in a sample size (15g), perfect for travel.
- Check out the No Pong product also at Biome! I opt for the Bicarb Free one.
Celery seed extract
I swear by celery seed extract. I use it for my chronic arthritic pain. Thompson’s herbal supplement, one-a-day celery seed extract 5000, is the brand I use.
Coconut oil
I’m now using virgin cold-pressed coconut oil once a day for oil pulling. Oil pulling helps maintain healthy gums and teeth. In the past, I’ve used virgin sesame seed oil, which gave similar benefits. See my article for the benefits of oil pulling and how it works.
Natural facial sponge
The Konjac sponge with French red clay for dry skin is what I use for cleansing my face in the morning, and I luv it! Simply wet it and use it. The water hydrates as the French clay goes to work.

Konjac is a vegetable root. Japan has used this natural fiber, Konnyoku, for over a century. The fibrous root is shaped into a round sponge for deep cleansing and exfoliating the skin to remove dead skin cells and promote a rejuvenated finish.
It’s perfect for sunburnt, irritated, or otherwise sensitive skin. It’s ideal for mature skin as it works to help reduce fine lines and broken capillaries. The makers also claim it helps with rosacea.
Designed for dry, sensitive, and or mature skin, it is naturally alkaline to balance the acidity of the skin’s impurities and oils.
